This GIF gets me every time...
So to start off things with Semester 2, I'd like to review over Semester 1 which includes
28 Days of February Aesthetic Art Therapy Challenge and the beginning of 31 Days of March Aesthetic Art Therapy Challenge, created by yours truly ;).
Art therapy is a gentle way of releasing stress, anxiety, calms the mind and the senses. It allows you to express your emotions through artistic expression in a variety of ways, build confidence, self-esteem and self-love.
I came up with a fun way to express the disdain I have being feeling about how some cultures and toxic societies view and bully other cultures, including their own.
I wanted the world to see the beauty in melanin, not just the variety of gorgeous complexions, but the beauty in the individual that carries the burden of being judged by their skin, cultural beliefs, their clothing and hair, you name it.
The Aesthetic Art Challenge is a literal representation of what individuals believe is beauty in their eyes. It's the idea of taking one major theme and repeating it for an entire month, called an aesthetic!
For example, my aesthetic for the upcoming months are:
"Melanin American beauty with a twist of fantasy"
I even generated a list for the last 15 days of March, in case anyone wants to follow along!
How do I do it?
Simple! Every day is a given theme. For example:
Rules:
Paint/Sculpt/Draw/ Photograph an image using the aesthetic "Melanin American beauty with a twist of fantasy".
Include in your image anything that relates to that day, such as Day 1 " I love slushies", I'm going to include a slushie some kind of way in my picture!
Check out my version of Day 1 below
3. Be creative!
4. Think about what emotions are being generated when you create these images and write them down on the back of your image to read back over in the future.
This will allow you to build self-confidence and answer any major or minor questions about yourself.
If you need help thinking of what to say, I'll include very short art therapy writing questions to ease your mind!
Oh and Happy Days :)
